Pregnancy Waxing

What to expect

For waxing during pregnancy a specially designed pregnancy cushioning bolster is used to give you maximum support and to ensure you feel comfortable throughout the time you are lying on the bed. Using the bolster ensures that you will not be lying completely flat on the bed, instead your back is slightly elivated ensuring a safe position throughout. You will be required to fill in a consultation form before we carry out the treatment so that we are aware of your medical history and to discuss your requirements.  Waxing may be more painful than usual and there may be some swelling. Since the blood circulation increases during pregnancy, waxing could cause tiny blood vessels to become visible beneath the skin’s surface after waxing.  We use high quality wax and are highly skilled so we will make the treatment as painless as possible and ensure the treatment is carried out thoroughly.

The Treatment

In order to have waxing during pregnancy you must be at least 3 months pregnant. We use certain techniques to minimize discomfort and we protect the skin using a pre-wax prep. The positions you will be asked to be in are adapted to pregnancy and are different depending on what stage you are during your pregnancy. Using the pregnancy cushioning bolster is ideal and takes the pressure off the back, particularly if you are lying on the bed for a longer treatment.

Aftercare

After waxing the following aftercare advice should be followed:

Some slight soreness, red bumps and redness are common and perfectly normal temporary reactions, especially when waxing for the first time. over the next 24-48 hours these symptoms should subside. If symptoms persist please consult your doctor.

Avoid touching the waxed area, and keep the area clean during the next 24-48 hours. During the next 24-48 hours you should also adhere to the following:

  • No hot baths/showers (Luke warm water only).

  • No saunas, hot tubs or steam treatments.

  • No sunbathing, sun beds, or fake tans.

  • No sport, gym or any other exercise.

  • Avoid touching or scratching the area.

  • Wear clean, loose fitted clothes.

  • Avoid swimming in chlorinated pools.

  • Do not apply deodorants, powders, lotions, body sprays or other products to the are other than those recommended to you by your therapist.

  • To soothe and protect the skin use a pure, clear aloe vera gel to the waxed area for 3 days following your treatment. You must wash your hands thoroughly before applying any product.

To prevent ingrown hairs: starting a few days after your appointment, when the skin is dry gently using a body brush in upward strokes brush the area that has been waxed. This should be done in a gentle manner and at least 2-3 times a week. Moisturize the skin everyday to keep the skin supple and to encourage the new hairs to grow through normally. To maintain a smooth appearance we recommend to have waxing every 3-4 weeks.

**Our ingrown hair serum should NOT be used while pregnant or breastfeeding.
